Comfort That Works With Your Day

Women's flat sandals from Mountfords bring together European comfort engineering and everyday practicality. Some styles from brands such as Django & Juliette, Birkenstock and Ziera are known for contoured footbeds, breathable uppers and cushioned soles that support natural foot movement, rather than fighting against it. Many people find these details make a noticeable difference on days spent walking, standing or moving between meetings and errands.

Materials like soft leather and suede are chosen for durability as well as comfort, so a pair can move easily from the beach to brunch to a full day on your feet. Melbourne's shifting seasons make flat sandals a practical addition to any wardrobe, whether paired with denim, a summer dress or tailored trousers.

A Melbourne Institution, Not a Mall Chain

Mountfords has been fitting Melbourne feet since the 1950s, long before big chain retailers arrived. The business still operates from high street locations on Bourke Street, Glenferrie Road and Burke Road, where experienced staff take the time to talk through fit, width and foot health rather than rushing through a sale. This old-fashioned approach to service is something many long-term customers say is hard to find elsewhere.

Staff regularly work with customers who have specific fit requirements, from wider feet to orthotic inserts, and are familiar with sizing quirks across brands. That kind of product knowledge, built up over generations, is part of what keeps customers coming back year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between flat sandals and heeled sandals for women?

A: Flat sandals sit close to the ground and are generally chosen for all-day comfort and stability, while heeled styles add height and a different silhouette. Many people choose flat sandals for casual wear, travel or long days on their feet, then switch to heeled styles for evening occasions.

Q: Are European flat sandals better for foot health?

A: European brands such as Birkenstock, ECCO and Josef Seibel are widely recognised for contoured footbeds and supportive construction. Many people with foot health concerns find these features more comfortable than flatter, less structured alternatives, though individual fit always matters more than brand alone.

Q: Which women's flat sandal brands does Mountfords stock?

A: Mountfords carries a curated selection of European comfort brands, including Birkenstock, ECCO, Gabor, Ara, Geox, Josef Seibel and Pikolinos. These labels are chosen for their focus on fit, durability and foot health rather than fast fashion trends.

Q: Can I get help finding the right fit in-store?

A: Yes. Use our store locator to find your nearest store. Each are staffed by experienced fitters who can talk through width, arch support and sizing across different European brands. This kind of personalised service has been part of the business since 1950.
